Roland Blum (Michael Sheen) often talks about having been mentored as a young man by Roy Cohn. Cohn (a historical figure) really did mentor a number of young businessmen and politicians (most notably Donald Trump), but the premise of Cohn being a mentor to a fictional character most famously comes from Tony Kushner's Pulitzer-Prize-winning two-part play Angels in America. Blum's season three storyline culminates in legal misconduct hearings and his eventual disbarment; both Cohn's real life and his fictionalized Angels in America storyline ended the same way.
