Stanley Kubrick was involved in the casting of the German dubbing of the movie. He chose Jörg Pleva as Jack Torrance. Kubrick previously gave Pleva the lead German dubbing roles for the characters of Redmond Barry in Barry Lyndon (1975) and Alexander DeLarge in Arancia meccanica (1971). This movie was Pleva's last dubbing work in a movie. Ironically, Joachim Kerzel, who later became Jack Nicholson's standard German dubbing voice actor, did the voice of the character Stuart Ullman in this movie. It is also notable that the line, "Here's Johnny," was altered in the German version to "Hier ist Jackie!" - "Here's Jackie!" - referencing the character's name of Jack Torrance. This was done because Germans at that time weren't familiar with The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson (1962).
