The Dinobots appear to be a litmus test of command ability. They arrive in the company of Optimus Prime, the Autobots' first leader. After his death, Ultra Magnus' first failure is tasking Blurr with getting them to board the shuttle. When Blurr proves unable to do this, Magnus gives the job to Kup and Hot Rod instead, and Hot Rod later becomes the new leader Rodimus Prime.
