Martin Brest, who had never shot action before, was intimidated by shooting the climactic shoot-out at Victor Maitland's mansion. The shot of Axel, Rosewood, and Taggart traveling along a hedge is about two seconds long and what remains of tons of footage of that same shot from different angles. Brest spent so much time on those few shots, because he was nervous to get into the heart of the action scene. The final scene of the film was also supposed to be shot at night, but budget constraints didn't allow for this.
