Writers/producers/co-creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are members of the band "The Solids," who perform the show's theme song "Hey Beautiful". The Solids' first performance was at Wesleyan University, which is the alma mater of both Bays and Thomas, as well as of the characters Ted, Marshall, and Lily.
