Pterosaurs were included in the original "Jurassic Park" novel, and had been considered for both of the previous movies, but these ideas were abandoned except for a brief scene at the end of Il mondo perduto - Jurassic Park (1997). They are finally featured in this movie, in a sequence that is largely based on the aviary subplot in the first novel. Additionally, this film includes a river ride from the 1st novel excluded from the 1st film, though, unlike the novel it's separate from the aviary scene, and the attack of the Tyrannosaur at the waterfall is changed to the Spinosaurus in open water. The waterfall attack had already been partially used in the 2nd film.
