Despite their villainous reputation, the Skullcrawlers may have been minions to Godzilla during Godzilla vs. Kong's original Titan War. These reptilian creatures and denizens of the Hollow Earth have a long and violent history with Kong's species, but thus far none of the MonsterVerse's characters have said anything about what relationship they may have had with Godzilla. there is a hint in the film they may have interacted during the Titan War. Long before Kong's people were wiped out by the Skullcrawlers, the giant apes of the MonsterVerse were embroiled in a bitter conflict with Godzilla's species somewhere deep within the Hollow Earth. Regardless of who won, it apparently ended with Kong's ancestors abandoning their Hollow Earth temple and relocating to the surface, where they made Skull Island their new home. Apparently, they weren't the only Hollow Earth creatures to emerge from the entry point at Skull Island. Among the creatures who joined Kong in the move were the Skullcrawlers, who gradually eradicated Kong's species, leaving only Kong himself as the last survivor. A cave painting in this films opening credits provides an interesting clue about the Skullcrawlers' Hollow Earth roots and their link to the titular Titans. The painting depicts the Titan War by spotlighting a battle between four monsters. The creatures shown are Godzilla, Kong, a Titan that may be Mothra, and a Skullcrawler. This means the Titan War wasn't fought between just the ancient relatives of Godzilla and Kong; other monsters were involved too. Whose sides they were on isn't made clear by the painting, but it's more likely that they were Godzilla's allies. The hatred between Kong and the Skullcrawlers feels so old and natural it's difficult to imagine any scenario where they fought on the side of Kong. Plus, their role in the Titan War could help explain their ancestral rivalry and the two species may have been at each other's throats for several millennia. So instead of fighting beside King Kong's ancestors, the Skullcrawlers could have joined forces with their fellow reptiles and helped Godzilla win the Titan War. Similar to the situation in the modern-day MonsterVerse, Kong's side could have been underdog figures, with Godzilla's kind being the favorites and the feared creatures in the Hollow Earth. For that reason, the Skullcrawlers could have become Godzilla's obedient minions. It wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened in the MonsterVerse. The Skullcrawlers could have behaved just like Rodan and Godzilla: King of the Monsters' original Titans, who bowed down to Godzilla after recognizing how powerful he was. All things considered, it's possible they understood that their species is inferior to the MonsterVerse's Godzilla and preferred to be with him than against him. If they crossed paths with him in Godzilla vs. Kong, there's a chance they would have accepted him as the alpha and sided with him again.
