This film marks the second time that Christopher Plummer's on-screen wife has been played by an actress whose husband also directed him in another film. Helen Mirren's husband Taylor Hackford directed Dolores Claiborne. Julie Andrews, his on-screen wife in both The Sound of Music and the television remake On Golden Pond, was married to director Blake Edwards, who directed him in The Return of the Pink Panther. Mirren also played Andrews on an episode of Saturday Night Live.
