Influenced heavily by the 1987 and 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons. This is evidenced when April is saved from a Foot Clan attack and faints when she meets the turtles; the scene is taken directly from the 1987 cartoon, including the lines where April contemplates her sanity for having a discussion with the terrapin brothers and a talking rat. Another scene with the turtles wearing trench coats was cut from the film for timing. The elevator scenes are based on shots from the 2003 series when the turtles ride the elevator to the top of a building being used as a base for the foot clan, stopping at several levels along the way to fight, and ending with a face off against the Shredder at the top.
