To clarify some of the confusion surrounding whether or not Richard Donner turned down the chance to direct this film, Cannon Films did en quire as to getting him back on-board as director. However even if he was interested (which is unclear) his schedule would not have permitted it as filming on Arma letale (1987) would have clashed with this film. Therefore he politely wrote to Cannon Films to tell them that he was not available for directing duties but thanked them for their interest.
