Aside from a sequel to the film, Disney planned a second show for ABC that would've focused on Lizzie's adventures in high school. However, just a month after the film was released, negotiations fell through, as confirmed by Hilary's mother, Susan Duff, through Entertainment Weekly. "Disney thought they'd be able to bully us into accepting whatever offer they wanted to make, and they couldn't. We walked away from a sequel. They walked away from a franchise." Duff was also supposed to get a $500,000 bonus if the movie made $50 million.
