When the kids try to kill the monster near the end of Season 1, episode 8, Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Upside Down (2016) they use a slingshot and seem to be aiming for the creature's open mouth. This is very similar to the ending of Stephen King's IT, a clear source of inspiration for the writers, where the adults attempt to kill the monstrous spider version of IT with a slingshot and pieces of silver and aim for the head (the kids had also tried earlier in the story with the same method against Pennywise). It is also a clear reference to the story of David and Goliath.
