Peter Graves refused to reprise the role of Jim Phelps in this movie, after the character was revealed to be a traitor to the I.M.F. and the villain of this movie. In this movie, Jim murders three fellow I.M.F. Agents, and is killed in a helicopter crash at the end, a decision that disappointed him and fellow cast members, and upset many fans of the original series.
