According to the Blu-ray booklet and interviews, the events of this film ARE based on a real incident. Co-writer Michael Ronald Ross was working as a liner note writer for a record company in Laurel Canyon in 1969,and he picked up a young hitchhiking hippie femme fatale on the way home from work named Donna, who stayed with him at the house he was subleasing from singer Harry Nilsson for weeks and burned all his spoons and left candle wax everywhere, and kept calling people and talking to strange people outside. Michael finally managed to drop her off at a house with a friend who was allegedly a drug dealer, but was a very nice guy who played guitar. Michael thought he was rid of Donna, but a few weeks later she called and asked him to be a reference for her parole officer. Fortunately for him she moved on and there was no serious trouble.
