A lot of Star Wars fans have either joked or theorized that the Sand People attacking Luke was revenge for the events of Star Wars: Episodio II - L'attacco dei cloni (2002) when his father Anakin killed a tribe of them for kidnapping and torturing his mother (Luke's grandmother) Shmi to death.
