At about 1 hour and 28 minutes into the film, John picks up a newspaper, the New York Times, and opens it to find an article written by his friend and coworker, Sabastian. The article is entitled "With U.S. Training, Colombia Melds War on Rebels and Drugs." The contents of this article are taken from an actual New York Times piece, with the same title, written by Larry Rohter, then South American bureau chief for The New York Times, in 1999.
