This is the ninth time that Tom Hanks has portrayed a real-life person. The first eight times that Hanks portrays a real-life person are Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 (1995), Charlie Wilson in La guerra di Charlie Wilson (2007), Captain Richard Phillips in Captain Phillips - Attacco in mare aperto (2013), Walt Disney in Saving Mr. Banks (2013), James B. Donovan in Il ponte delle spie (2015), Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger in Sully (2016), Ben Bradlee in The Post (2017), and Fred Rogers in Un amico straordinario (2019), respectively. In this film, Hanks portrays Andreas van Kuijk/"Colonel" Tom Parker. Although, in Prova a prendermi (2002), he portrays Carl Hanratty, who is based on real-life FBI agent Joseph Shea. Furthermore, in the documentary series, Freedom: A History of US (2003), he portrays Daniel Boone, Paul Revere, Abraham Lincoln, Jacob Coxey, and Charles E. Wood in various time periods.
