Dwayne Johnson was passed over on this role in favour of Tom Cruise. Although Tom Cruise was a much more seasoned actor than Johnson, Johnson's size and cadence would have fit what the character from the book actually looks like. This was a misstep in the movie as Reacher's size and intimidation is as much a part of the story as anything else. The 2022 tv show corrected this with the casting of Alan Ritchson.
