There is no evidence that Marilyn Monroe was ever in a three-way relationship with Charles Chaplin Jr. ("Cass") and Edward G. Robinson Jr. ("Eddy"), nor that either of them got her pregnant as it is shown in the movie. And there is no evidence that Chaplin Jr. was writing letters to Monroe pretending to be her father either. The three-way in the movie was taken from Joyce Carol Oates' 2001 fictional novel. Eddy made reference to his affair with Monroe in his 1960 autobiography, "My Father, Charlie Chaplin", and author Anthony Summers also mentions their relationship in his 1985 book, "Goddess: The Secret Lives of Marilyn Monroe", which claims that Cass introduced Monroe to his family in 1947. Eddy was Monroe's co-star in A qualcuno piace caldo (1959). Summers' book also claims that Monroe and Eddy actually met through Cass, but that they only dated for a short time and not at the same time as she was dating Cass. Things allegedly started heating up between them while Monroe was filming 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes', when Eddy was just 19 years old at the time, while Monroe was around 27.
