"The King" is actually based on famous racer, Richard Petty, and bears a strong resemblance to his famous Superbird. Likewise when "The King" crashes during a final stretch it mirrors Petty's famous crash on the homestretch of the Rebel 400. However, in this case "The King" comes to a stop right side up while Petty's crash left him upside down.
