For series 29, shot during the covid-19 pandemic production period, the trio dynamic seems to have evolved into Chris Harris being the "serious" experienced motoring journalist hard-core petrolhead racing driver, Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff as the team daredevil with a cast-iron stomach and a regular habit of crashing vehicles, with Paddy McGuinness as the "jack the lad", with a passion for designing eccentric vehicles. Also, this season, the celebrity guest content was dropped, meaning more screen time with the hosts' films. Additionally, the "studio" audience segments were moved outside to part of the airfield, and re-staged and shot as a socially distanced "drive-in concert", not unlike the "Top Gear Live" tour.
