The studio didn't want the scene of Shanks flipping off the women as they were worried it would "scare away families," but director Paul Feig pointed out that the original movie was also risque. On the commentary, he says, "If you watch the original, they swear constantly, they smoke constantly, and then there's fellatio from a ghost. So people remember what they want to remember."
