The Elvis: The Comeback Special (1968) was filmed during the summer and aired on December 3, 1968. Elvis watched at home and was unsure of the reaction the show would receive because he hadn't been on television while making movies in Hollywood for several years. As soon as the show was over the phone started ringing with all positive acclaim from friends and family, which relieved Elvis. When the ratings came in, it was estimated that 42% of televisions tuned into the see the famed '68 special which helped launch Elvis back into live performances in Vegas the year after.
