According to sculptor and puppeteer Pedro Girardello, the process of creating the Xuxo dummy was troublesome. Initially, the character was supposed to resemble Xuxa's real life dog of the same name, also molded after The Storyteller (1987)'s dog. The crew visited Xuxa's home and took pictures of Xuxo for reference. Then, the puppet was ordered to resemble a real life toy promoted by Xuxa. Girardello observed that, due to such changes, the result did not look as good as it could have been.
