Philip Seymour Hoffman auditioned for the role of Eric. Adam Sandler saw his tape and thought he was hilarious. Sandler really wanted Hoffman, but the studio said they offered it to him, and he changed his mind and didn't want to do the film. Sandler then called him up personally and asked him why he declined and Hoffman just said, "I just don't like it."
