Prominent members of the Winter Hill Gang were not portrayed or mentioned in the movie. For instance, Howie Winter, Bulger's boss, who was arrested in 1979. Another key associate was Patrick Nee, a gunrunner, who got Bulger involved with the I.R.A. and was directly involved with the murders of Brian Halloran and John McIntyre.
