This movie was released a month before Eddie Ray Routh's trial for Chris Kyle's murder. Routh pled not guilty by reason of insanity. On February 24, 2015, Routh was found guilty of capital murder in Stephenville, Texas (the jury did not buy his insanity defense) where he is sentenced to life imprisonment without parole. The prosecutors chose not to pursue the death penalty.
