The film received great reviews from critics and audiences, with its Rotten Tomatoes scores being 87% and 95% respectively. Unfortunately, it was released during the rise of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic when movie theaters were either closing or limiting capacity in an effort to limit the spread of the virus (and even with this measure many people felt it was still unsafe to go to the movies). Eventually, it got so severe that all movie theater chains were forced to close before the film could recoup its budget. As a result, Disney made the unprecedented move of making the film available for digital download only two weeks after its theatrical release as it was now the only way people could view it.
