Marcus Licinius Crassus was made Imperator after Cossinius and Furius were killed by the rebels. It's revealed that he had planned the entire ordeal and that Spartacus fell into his strategy perfectly. This is historically inaccurate, however. The rebels did kill Cossinius and Furius, however they were already under the command of Crassus at that time. This was likely changed (as the producers almost had to know the history, given their attention to detail), to narrow down the character count and confusion, and to show just how clever Crassus was.
