The large Aiwha creature, briefly seen flying out of the waves of Kamino, was originally designed by Ralph McQuarrie for L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980). In that film, the "air-whale" would have been seen on Bespin. Subsequently, it was proposed as desert mounts for the Sarlaac scene in Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983) and then to be used by the Gungan in Star Wars: Episodio I - La minaccia fantasma (1999).
