Manoj Kumar stated in the September 1982 Stardust magazine that signing Dilip Kumar for the lead role was a liability. "What was Dilip Kumar's career condition when i signed him? He was finished. My distributors told me he would create trouble and the film would take 7 years to complete. But after Kranti, people got confidence in him again. They now say Dilio Kumar was always a great actor. He never interfere's. My experience with him was wonderful. When we first met before Kranti, I narrated the story to him in 2 minutes. We also settled in money matters. I paid him more than what his market was in 1977.He only told me ,kaka make sure you look after Dilip Kumar. The only time he interfered was when he wanted a scene of his deleted. He told me the scene was too long. Till the end he kept asking me to edit it out and add some one else. But i felt that scene was needed.
