Masen was stung by a Triffid after encouraging the immature one in his garden to walk; something that would have been fatal had it been fully grown. The Triffids stinger is 10ft long; their poison kills instantly anyone if it struck unprotected flesh. Chopping off their stinger was like rendering them harmless and it would take 2yrs for it to grow back. They can shoot venom up to 15ft away and their stingers are lightning quick but less accurate when attacking moving vehicles. The Triffids almost always aim for the head of a victim but sometimes the hands. It's speculated they can talk to one another so they may possess some intelligence. Triffids seem to communicate by way of rattling and even check on each other. One can build up an immunity to Triffid poison. Triffids will attack animals too, but their stingers can be ineffective against animal hides, e.g. sheep with fleece.
