The Dutch village that Peter wakes up in is called 'Broek op Langedijk', which in ancient Dutch means a low piece of land in a marsh-like area, situated next to a long dyke. It is a genuine town in the Netherlands, known for its historic architecture. Yet, scenes at the marketplace and the tulip field in the movie were all shot in the Czech Republic during the Prague shoot (actors with speaking lines are all Dutch. The bare-chested one is Jeroen van Koningsbrugge, a famous Dutch comedian). Despite not really appearing in the movie, the tourist board of Broek was happy with the reference, since they immediately noted a rise in interest from American tourists after the film's premiere, and they even considered creating a Spider-Man-themed attraction. Lesser known fact: the so-called "Dutch/reverse auction" has its origins in this village. It was practiced in its agricultural auction house the "Broeker Veiling".
