By the time production started on the film, cartoon director Max Fleischer, who produced the 1933-1942 Popeye cartoons for Paramount, had already died in 1972; and Paramount Cartoon Studios, which continued with the Popeye series from 1942 to 1957 under Famous Studios, had already closed in 1967. At the same time, the Hanna-Barbera television animation studio was already producing Braccio di Ferro (1978), which explains their involvement in the animated opening title.
