For the scene where band technician Krug, played by Slayer lead guitarist Kerry King, is electrocuted, Tony Gardner and the Alterian team relied solely on practical effects. The effect began with King, in prosthetics, flailing around on the ground, while a smoke machine spewed smoke. And then "we were able to swap Kerry out and use somebody else for closeup body shots while we were upping the gross-out factor of Kerry's facial makeup for progressive stages of electrocution." King's electrocution makeup was achieved via a combination of out-of the-kit makeup, silicone appliances, and Pros-Aide transfer raised veins.
