After the release of Transformers 4 - L'era dell'estinzione (2014), a writers' room was set up to plan a possible cinematic universe apart from the mainline films. Two of the ideas pitched involved the Arthurian myth and World War II. Executive producer and director Michael Bay liked them so much that he decided to incorporate them into the script for this movie.
