The props master - not the cast - chooses what's on the menu for the Sunday dinner scenes, although they have their preferences: Donnie Wahlberg homes in on the vegetables, then complains about gas, and Sami Gayle (Nikki Reagan-Boyle) doesn't eat red meat after complaining early on that it stuck in her braces. Estes avoids turkey, claiming that the tryptophan slows him down and dulls his acting ability. Selleck is said to be a real meat-and-potatoes guy. Most of the cast employ techniques which make it look like they are eating: moving food around the plate with a fork, buttering a roll, but never taking a bite; Bridget Moynahan admits to mashing her food. Others drink water. Although a spit bucket is made available, it is rarely used.
