The SpongeBob SquarePants episode, SpongeBob SquarePants: SB-129/Karate Choppers, is shown in the movie when Katy (Leighton Meester), is watching it on the TV when she is watching the kids. Coincidentally, two of the movie's stars, Kristen Wiig and Ray Liotta, guest starred on SpongeBob. Liotta guest starred in SpongeBob SquarePants: Whatever Happened to SpongeBob (2008) as the leader of the Bubble Poppin' Boys, and Wiig would guest star in the episode The Curse of the Hex/The Main Drain (2011) as Madame Hagfish the following year.
