The box-office failure of this film led to Bill Mechanic's firing as head of 20th Century Fox. Rumors have persisted that Fox owner Rupert Murdoch fired Mechanic for greenlighting Fight Club (1999), which Murdoch despised, and the box-office failure of Titan A.E. (2000) was the final straw.
