In an interview with David Carradine included in the special features of the series DVD set, he stated that the network censors were concerned about the potential violence and would only allow 2-3 minutes of martial arts combat per episode. Carradine said that they found creative ways to get around that limitation, discussing one example how they began to shoot scenes in the Shaolin temple that included students in the background of the shot practicing Kung Fu while dialogue was spoken in the foreground.
