The idea for this TV series came from the office of Jamie Kellner, who was head of programming at the WB network at the time, after he had called a meeting with the crew from Batman - Cavaliere della notte (1997). Kellner told them they were doing a great job on the TV series, but it skewed a bit old and the WB would really like to retrofit Batman to get the kid demographic higher and make sure the kids watched it. The crew thought they would have to bring in another sidekick, but Kellner told them he wanted an all-new TV series with a teenage Batman. Keller then told them that this series has been green-lit and they could start working on it immediately. The crew was a bit shell-shocked when they were asked to do a teenage Batman TV series and even thought about quitting. Glen Murakami was enthusiastic about the idea and convinced everyone to do the series.
