In the deleted scene which Luke reunites with Biggs Darklighter just before the Death Star Assault. Garven Dreis (Red Leader) meets Luke and says that he had met Luke's father Anakin once when he was a boy. According to Garven Dreis's backstory on Star Wars wiki, Red Leader met Anakin Skywalker whom led Republic air forces In the battle of Virujansi during the Clone Wars. Garven Dreis is killed in the Death Star Assault by Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker).
