President James Dale's earnest line "Can't we all just... get along?" in the film is a paraphrase (and parody) of the famous quote by Rodney King, spoken in a televised speech reacting to the L.A. riots on 5/1/92. The riots occurred after the acquittal of the policemen who had beaten King following a high speed chase in 1991. Another version of the line appears in Tim Burton's film Planet of the Apes - Il pianeta delle scimmie (2001). King did not originate this statement, but is most strongly associated with it.
