The first scene which Frank Whaley shots was that in which he and Tom Cruise speak at night in Cruise's house garden. The night before, Whaley was in Carolina filming Piccoli mostri (1989), and he had to take the last plane to Dallas, and he couldn't prepare his lines, which caused a great deal of anger to Oliver Stone. Whaley apologized and asked for 10 minutes to learn his lines. Tom Cruise kind of rubbed him on the shoulder and said, "Don't worry about. It's gonna be okay. You'll be fine." Despite this situation, Stone must have finally been satisfied with Whaley's work, because they have worked together again several times after: in The Doors (1991), in JFK - Un caso ancora aperto (1991) and in World Trade Center (2006).
