The initial idea for the opening credits was to have the title made up of bits of flesh and bone, which executive producer Ronald Shusett explains was far too gory. Ridley Scott recollects he saw the poster design for the film, and asked that the film's title be used with the same font. He notes the title as its revealing itself looks like a hieroglyph.
