After escaping from prison, M. Gustave calls upon the services of the Society of the Crossed Keys, apparently a secret society of hotel concierges. There is actually an international society of hotel concierges, Les Clefs d'Or (the Golden Keys), where member concierges can seek assistance from their colleagues (although not for prison escapes). Members of Les Clefs d'Or wear lapel pins in the form of crossed keys, very similar to the ones worn by Gustave and his colleagues in this movie.
