Bradley Cooper began planning his vision for this film while working as a producer on American Sniper (2014), which was directed by Clint Eastwood. After Cooper and Lady Gaga performed a screen test together, Warner Brothers executives were impressed with their on-screen chemistry and greenlit the project.
