As of 2022, General Hospital is the only American daytime soap opera on the air that is produced and owned by the network it airs on (in this case, ABC). As such, there is no technical need for the show to be renewed since there are no licensing fees to negotiate with outside production companies; ABC can keep the show in production for however long it wants to.
