(at around 50 mins) Sister Oana tells Irene during the second night staying at the Abbey that the Abbey was built by a Duke of Saint Carta who was a devil worshiper who tried to summon an evil spirit from hell, allegedly Valak, but was stopped by presumably the Knights Templar, who were the military wing of the Catholic Church. However, since Oana is a ghost who more than likely is under the control of Valak, the entire history of Saint Carta abbey could be false.
