The characters of David and Walter are quite similar to the characters of Data and Lore from Star Trek: The Next Generation, who are humanoid androids created by a respected scientist. Both pairs of 'brothers' are played by one actor each (Brent Spiner and Michael Fassbender) in dual roles. Also, one of each pair is a good-nature person who likes humans and the other utterly resents humans and thinks that androids shouldn't be subservient to them.
